My favourite Dickens novel. Although I find it quite unrealistic for someone who goes through as much difficulties and who has been harmed so much to be able to grow up with his morals and values intact.

David Copperfield, by Charles Dickens

Great characters, even the annoying ones. It was a timeless story for me. Date published: Rated 5 out of 5 by Frank from One of his best For a really long "Classic", this was an enjoyable read, largely to the humor and wonderful characters.

Date published: Rated 4 out of 5 by Solo from Many detailed characters This book is off to a slow start in the first few chapters, but as is the case with many Charles Dickens novels, you end up happy to have persevered. I love its humour. I would refrain from encapsulating the plot since many others have already done this more wonderfully than I would be able to.

From the very first page to the very last, every word on every sentence dances rhythmically, and pleases one to read same paragraph again and again. Only Shakespeare, it seems, could have written more poetically and with such sentiment. This is a novel that must be in the library of every lover of literature. If you have not read Dickens, start with this.

David Copperfield

Perhaps not; he was certainly not better than Tolstoy, but as you read his works, you can feel the smoothness of his pen on the paper. We meet David when he is born. His father has died and his mother has the misfortune to marry a harsh man who arrives in the household complete with an even harsher sister so that David gets the benefit of both an evil step-father and 'step-mother'. Things just keep getting worse.
