Sidewinder series is set in the same universe as Cut & Run. Warrior's Cross is about plot characters who appear in fifth book. It's best to read it as. Twin sisters separated by the past are reunited by unspeakable crimes in New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton’s throat-clutching novel of suspense. The unconscious woman clinging to life after a hit and run is FBI agent Macy Crow. Mary Burton's books just have everything.

Shelves: m-m-romance This book came highly recommended, so I was quite disappointed when I finally got around to reading it. This was basically every buddy cop movie you've ever seen, except this time the two agents have sex. The two agents would have been interesting characters if the dialogue hadn't been designed to beat you over the head with the fact that these two guys don't like each other, no really, they don't like each other, look at how much they don't like each other! It was fine, if a little cliched, at first, but then it just kept going. Every time I started getting into the book, something would pull me out of it.

There is a lot of extremely unlikely dialogue. For example, I doubt two guys who really don't like each other no really, they really don't like each other and are trying to keep their bisexuality under wraps would spend so much time joking about each other's butts. Also, while talking to younger FBI agents, one of the main characters mentions that while the younger man was watching cartoons, he was "in the Gulf", to which the other agent replies "The gulf of what?

The authors' depiction of New York City doesn't ring true at all. Where in The Village do you pull out of your parking space into 60mph traffic? And why are there so many hippies still hanging around? And apparently, if you grab a stewardess's butt and then call her sweetheart or darling or something else cliche and insulting, she will give you her phone number and invite you to her affordable-on-a-flight-attendant's-salary Manhattan apartment for anonymous sex.

Also in this world, if you are an FBI agent you never have to go to the hospital. After your car is smashed an EMT will set your broken arm and send you home with a bottle of painkillers that they carry with them, even after you tell them you have a previous drug problem, because ambulances are also portable pharmacies, and you don't need X-rays of your broken arm or broken ribs or maybe dislocated shoulder or banged up knee or any of the other injuries you've sustained.

In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Special Agent Zane Garrett and Ty Grady are depicted as doing several desk jobs in the agency six months after solving the case of the serial killer in New York City.

The desk job seems to be boring and monotonous for them as well as frightening at the same as they were supposed to do field jobs and investigations, being FBI Special Agents. Soon, the two are ordered to go on a vacation so that they can have some time to know each other well and this will be good for the sanity of others as well.

Ty decides to take Zane Garrett to his home in West Virginia with the hope of exploring the explosive attraction towards each other in the quiet and peaceful mountains in his home town and eventually reconcile as professional partners. They hope to have a relaxing and nice trip, which seems to be far from reality as they begin to face all sorts of danger from every direction. They begin to face challenges by the unrelenting mountains, the unpredictable weather, several fellow hikers who have nothing to lose, wild animals and most difficult challenge of all, each other.

If you are a fan of mysteries and suspense books, then, you need to check out author, Mary Burton. This latest offering from Mary does serve up good characters, a nice storyline with a mix of action and intrigue.

I liked Faith. She was a good mixture of intelligent but personable as well. Thus in turn this made her relatable. A very important quality to have in a character. It makes reading a book much easier. There are several other characters featured in this book. They didn't play second stri If you are a fan of mysteries and suspense books, then, you need to check out author, Mary Burton. They didn't play second string but equal parts to Faith. Which, I am a fan of this author's and her books.

I do have to admit that I struggled in the beginning to really find my footing wit this book. The first chapter or two were good but after that it seemed like there was a lot of time spent in the details of trying to piece everything together. Not that details are not important but too much time spent causes the story to get bogged down. The second half of the book is much better. It is where the most of the action happened.

Plus, the story moved faster. There are a few twists along the way. Jan 19, Ann-Marie rated it liked it. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. Mary Burton is an experienced thriller writer. She knows how to develop compelling characters, how to give just enough hints in a plot to be intriguing but not confusing.

But I wonder if the genre itself is running out of steam. It is getting hard for even good writers to come up with a new angle, a story idea that hasn't been done to death, as it were. All that is left to do is either ratchet up the body count or make the premise unbelievable, or both. The plot centers around a scheme to impregnate young women, chain them up in a basement until they deliver, kill them and then sell the babies.

If that isn't bad enough, the evildoers start killing each other off years later, along with some innocent bystanders, just to keep the blood flowing. After dealing with all that, the hero and heroine kiss and ride off into the sunset together. I need months of therapy when I lose a dog to old age. These people must be able to turn off all emotions at will.

The three stars are because there were times I lost myself in the story. That's worth something. Mar 31, Debbie Oxier rated it really liked it. Faith is a forensic medical examiner. While investigating a recent find she uncovers evidence that her life, as she knew it, might have been riddled with secrets.

I was hooked on this book as soon as I started it I know that twins separated at birth is not a new plot twist, but this one was completely different to what I've read before. Dine & Dash (Cut & Run, #5.5)

Check out my full review on Scandalicious Book Reviews: Oct 13, Trish R. BUT this one I loved. It went from secret meetings in hotel rooms with no kissing and no facing each other while having sex to a slight peck on the cheek to kissing on the lips to falling in love by the end of the book. It was a little romance and sex thrown in with murder and kidnappings to solve.

Mention her 2 or 3 times but NOT 23 times. It really was exciting from beginning to end. There was graphic sex in this book but certainly NOT erotic.

And the F-bomb was used 7 times. As to the narration: However, this time the men may have all sounded alike but at least the sounded like men. Great job, Ms. As of today I will gladly listen to you narrate. This is Mary Burton's newest book and for now it's a free read and free listen. You should grab it up, if you haven't already. First time dipping my toes into Mary Burton's world and it won't be my last!

This book was a really good thriller. Well written, with great character development. I loved that Faith and Mitchell weren't exactly perfect, which made them easy to relate to and more human. I really enjoyed the pace. The overall story kept me mostly guessing and gave me enough to make me want to flip through the pages.

The themes were a bit dark and as a mother, hard to read at times. I liked that the authors sprinkled a little bit of romance to lighten the plot line. I think my only gripe with all of this would be the ending. I thought it felt a bit rushed as everything fell into place and the last bit was uncovered. I would have liked the reveal to unravel a bit slower.

But I really enjoyed her style of writing and storytelling, I will be looking for more from this author. This review was originally posted on Night Owl Book Cafe Sep 23, RachelW BamaGal rated it really liked it. The long-lost twin sister trope almost made me groan out loud; but Burton tossed all the old cliches out and came up with a rather original idea for the plotline.

Burton really needs to work on that; but otherwise this was a well done RS story. The big bad killing off the lesser big bads one by one was a nice touch, if a bit gory. Love this author. Always a solid listen. Oct 26, Sandy rated it it was amazing.

Mary Burton is an author that I enjoy, knowing that her romantic suspense will draw me in with a great story and great characters. This one does not disappoint. When Texas Ranger, Mitchell Hayden finds the body of one of his informants, he knows the man has been tortured. What she finds at her father Mary Burton is an author that I enjoy, knowing that her romantic suspense will draw me in with a great story and great characters.

What she finds at her father's home has her running her own investigation. When Macy starts asking questions, she ends up on the radar of a hitman, who runs her down and leaves her for dead. When Hayden shows up at the scene of the accident, he finds the injured woman who looks exactly like Faith, the woman he has an odd relationship with.

What is going on?

Who has tried to kill Faith's lookalike? Is Faith in danger? Cut and Run is a romantic suspense story as well as a thriller, with action that starts right from the first page and does not let up. The story is told from a few different POVs with Hunter and Faith being the main ones, but a host of secondary characters as well.

Faith is the medical examiner who worked on the first body. She was smart and dedicated to her job, finding answers for the victims and their families. She was someone who helps others, demonstrated by her work with the homeless young women, often putting herself in danger.
