Similar to one of his previous novels, it is a novel that makes us think of the choices we have made in our life and how they affect others and how everything happens for a reason in our lives. Overall it is a story of redemption by going back in time and fixing past mistakes and showing appreciation for our loved ones. An extremely intoxicated Charley decides that he should kill himself in his old hometown but, on his way there, he misses the exit, He swings around dangerously to drive down the wrong side of the road, overturning his car in the process. He emerges unscathed, however, and proceeds to walk town, climb to the top of the water tower, and jump off. When he wakes at the foot of the tower, his mother, who has been dead for eight years, is standing over him. This unlikely turn of events is the crux of the novel, it offers Charley a second chance to spend time with his mother, to learn more about-and from-her that he did when she was alive. Baseball becomes the means through which the two of them bond and Charley pursues a professional career in the sport primarily to please his father.

He leaves his family. He hits bottom after discovering his only daughter has shut him out of her wedding. And he decides to take his own life. He makes a midnight ride to his small hometown, with plans to do himself in.
But upon failing even to do that, he staggers back to his old house, only to make an astonishing discovery. His mother--who died eight years earlier--is still living there, and welcomes him home as if nothing ever happened.
What follows is the one "ordinary" day so many of us yearn for, a chance to make good with a lost parent, to explain the family secrets, and to seek forgiveness. Somewhere between this life and the next, Charley learns the astonishing things he never knew about his mother and her sacrifices.
And he tries, with her tender guidance, to put the crumbled pieces of his life back together. Through Albom s inspiring characters and masterful storytelling, readers will newly appreciate those whom they love--and may have thought they d lost--in their own lives. SlideShare Explore Search You.

He felt that his body is broken and he felt his mom holding him giving him back to the real world. He survived his suicide attempts and he tried to make up for the life he has wasted.
He communicated with his daughter and he got civil with his ex-wife. He also wanted to tell something about the terrible effects of a divorce on children. That chase often haunts you right into adulthood. And if you did, would you be big enough to stand it? I have always been a fan of Mitch Albom books.
He always gives inspiration to the readers and this time an eye opener to the children who always took their parents for granted. Mostly, our mothers are the ones we take for granted because we know that they will always be there. The author delivered the scenarios well which makes me crave for more. Posey is a replica of a mother who showered you with unconditional love without asking anything in return.
Mitch Albom achieved his goal of showing the readers how bad it feels to have divorced parents. He also made the readers relate with the book when he included the times he did not stood up for his mother and the number of times his mother stood up for him.
And there are many days where we became devilish children who gave headaches to our mothers. I recommend this book to everyone especially the youth.
You can find lessons that are already seen by your own eyes but not yet felt by your hearts. It would make you appreciate your mothers more, maybe not after reading the book but it will surely stick to you when you already have your own family and your children are already giving you headaches.
Two thumbs up again to Mr. Mitch Albom.
