He's getting into an affair with a young hippie, eats the wrong shroom and changes into a crazy forest survivor with no remorse.
Murder inclusive. The writing is tight. The humor is sharp and the characterizations of business types are spot on. However, the novel meanders in the second half. The passages with the main character lurking in the forest repeat themselves. The end--which I'm not going to spoil--is also dis Well-written Swiss psycho-thriller about a star lawyer specializing in mergers.
The end--which I'm not going to spoil--is also disappointing and abrupt. A good but not great psycho-thriller with socio-critical elements. Sep 15, Voilarebecca rated it really liked it. I borrowed my sisters car who went to try out a weekend in wild nature with friends where I found the book and read it on the way home.
My sister and her husband are planning a nice civilized paddle tour with canoes and and a bbq afterwards. If reading this book was her way of preparation I am worried. A great book with dark digs into the human psyche Suter dives away from superficial character descriptions swirled in a good plot to a coherent story. For me it feels like the first part pre-fung I borrowed my sisters car who went to try out a weekend in wild nature with friends where I found the book and read it on the way home.
For me it feels like the first part pre-funghi turned out to be a lot longer than the author really wanted it but then you did need a lot of explanations.
It feels a slight bit dated when we read through lifestyles of the protagonist. Not every reader can feel the pain of an overpaid star corporate lawyer but in the last 6 years we all have had a glimpse at their excesses through the financial crisis.
The transcendental turn of the story feels like a walk through a day dream. Maybe we lost him on his trip to Walden Pond? The quest for a certain mushroom that can undo the damage done - while he still feels justified and righteous about the things he has done after the trip are maybe another motive to keep the story going but the ending is disappointing and somehow feels a bit too easy and calculated.
Any way. An entertaining read for a few hours when you haven't got anything else to do. Just don't try it at home. View 2 comments.
