It’s an Oxymoron Fast

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

False Prophet Ronald Weinland is in Los Angeles on his way down under via Air New Zealand.  A new name, Bob Pitts (if I heard correctly), local elder in LA, gave the opening prayer.  Johnny is going along with Ron to Australia and New Zealand and gave the closing prayer.

Ron handed out some statistics: between 600 thousand to 650 thousand copies of his books printed and 1.5 million copies downloaded.  Just think:  if Ron’s prophecies had come true on the schedule laid out in his books, around 2 million people would be familiar with his fulfilled prophecies and would have joined PKG already.

This is the weekend of Ron’s Thanksgiving Fast.  While the rest of PKG is fasting, Ron (got it out of the way early?) had breakfast this morning and tortured those in attendance by drinking water during today’s performance.

Ron has put out the beginnings of a course correction.  Seems that not all events relating to the Two Witnesses will be as expected, due to warfare of a spiritual nature.  Hmmm.  Could this non-event relate to the deaths of the Two Witnesses on the streets of Jerusalem with live TV coverage, exactly as described in “2008 — God’s Final Witness”?

Ron mocked people who make the same mistake repeatedly, such as getting married repeatedly to people with whom they’ve cheated and being surprised when it happens to them.  Not at all like following one apostle after the other who prophesies the end is imminent and being surprised when these prophecies fail.

Ron’s perfect God created mankind with a nature to sin.  God created evil, including the personification of evil in the form of Satan whom he knew would use his free will to rebel.  A God who took a man who somehow never sinned and then had him tortured to permit him to forgive the rest of mankind who can’t avoid sinning and will send this man here in a few months to destroy the majority of the rest of mankind.  A God who wants nothing but happiness and fullness of life for us.  How could we possibly reject that?

A “Church of God Jonestown”?

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

NO2HWA at Banned By HWA has added a new post describing a comment left on Facebook by a relation of a PKG member to the effect that False Prophet Ronald Weinland has indicated that his followers spend all their money now as it will be worthless by Pentecost when Ron has scheduled Christ to return.  That is consistent with statements the Ronnie has made in sermons.  The relation indicates the PKG members he knows plans to go to Hawaii, which I would guess is for Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread.

NO2HWA thinks that it’s “almost a given he will be imprisoned for tax evasion”.  While I think it more likely than not that Ron will be a guest of Club Fed, I don’t have any special insight into the government’s case against Weinland and am not willing to express any degree of certainty.  Regarding his desire that “they will imprison the Second Witness also”, I wouldn’t mind seeing that happen.  But the reality is that Laura is not under indictment and I have no indication that she is even under investigation.

NO2HWA goes on to ask if Ron is “prepping his group for his upcoming imprisonment?”  No, I don’t think so.  If he is, he’s doing a poor job of it.  So far, Ron indicates that he’s all-in for Christ’s return on Pentecost.  But if Ron really believes that, then he has cut off the funding for his legal defense team of Robert C. Webb and Jon Christopher Coffman at the Frost Brown Todd law firm.  Somehow, I have the feeling that Bob and Jon are still sorting through the 5000+ pages of discovery provided by the government and after tax season is over will be engaging an accountant to help out.

Referring to the title of his post NO2HWA goes on to ask “Or, does Weinerdude have something worse up his sleeve. It will only be a matter of time till Ron Weinland or some crazy splinter group leader flips out and hundreds will die.”

I myself think it highly unlikely that Weinland will pull a “Jim Jones”.  Although his actions make no sense, I doubt that a competent mental health professional will find that he’s crazy.  He’s more into the adoration of his followers, and will attempt to enjoy that as long as he can.  When it’s obvious to everyone that Christ isn’t returning, Weinland will pull out more signs and lying wonders to hang on to his followers.

But while I do not expect a Jonestown-style mass suicide, I do expect that lives will be ruined.  There will be ruined lives: financial and personal.  When the Tuesday after Memorial Day comes, there will be those with no funds, a heavy debt burden, and no job either.  Family relations will be ruined.  There will be PKG members who lose hope personally and suffer as a result.  And there may very well be individual suicides and that actually may have already happened.  But no, I’m not expecting a “Church of God Jonestown” here — what’s will happen is bad enough.

The Tithe of the Third

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

False Prophet Ronald Weinland has long prophesied that before Jesus Christ returned, his church would grow to include “a tithe of the third” of those who were members of the Worldwide Church of God on the day of the opening of the first seal and Joe Tkach’s apostasy in Atlanta, December 17, 1994.  With somewhere around 100,000 baptized members on that date, a tithe of the third of those would be somewhere around 3300 people.  The attendance at PKG’s 2007 Feast of Tabernacles was in the neighborhood of 300 or so, but that included younger people baptized after 1994.  Ron claims that since then the size has tripled following the Google advertizing campaign for his books conducted in the months following the 2007 feast, but most of those people don’t have a CoG background.

So somewhere around 3000 (give or take a few hundred) ex-WCG members have yet to join PKG to fulfill Ron’s prophesies.  Here we are, 8 weeks before Ron’s and Laura’s deaths in the streets of Jerusalem, and time grows short for that.  Any evidence this is happening?

The latest issue of The Journal (PDF download) suggests not.  The Journal is geared to those who continued to follow Armstrongism after the breakup of WCG, which according to Weinland is 1/3 of the 100,000 or so members in 1994.  If there were a significant movement toward Weinland’s church in that small group, it would surely be noted in the pages of The Journal.  Yet in this latest issue, the only mention of Weinland is in a letter from David Barrett, which concludes:

Speaking of the book of Revelation, imagine how much less apocalyptic certain preachers would have been— William Miller, Herbert W. Armstrong, Harold Camping, Ronald Weinland—if Revelation hadn’t made it in.
I’m giving a talk on failed prophecies of Jesus’ imminent return next week before someone else’s talk on 2012 prophecies. I’ll finish up by saying we won’t need to worry about December 2012 if Ron Weinland’s right about May 27.

Weinland was also mentioned in the previous edition of The Journal, regarding his indictment for criminal tax evasion.

Since Ron’s trial scheduled for March 20 was continued to June 4, he is allowed by the courts to continue his false prophecy roadshow, and even to travel internationally.  This weekend is the unique fast as Ron is in Los Angeles on his way down under.  I’m interested to see if the unique fast sermon will include the beginnings of a course correction around the shoals of the ultimate failed prophecy in just over 8 weeks.

End of the End-Time

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

False Prophet Ronald Weinland was in Windsor CT (between Springfield MA and Hartfort CT) this weekend.  While Mitch Williams, his senior elder for the area,  gave the closing prayer, Ron had Ralph Dowd from Cincinnati give the opening.  Wonder why elder John Giannotta of nearby New York was not given mike time. Could it be that John is one of the elders who is hedging his bets by putting some cash in reserve for the unlikely event that Christ doesn’t return on Memorial Day weekend?

Ron announced some tweaks to his upcoming itinerary but still plans to travel to Europe, visiting the Netherlands two weeks before Pentecost and London the last weekend before the one that Christ doesn’t return.  Ron advised his groupies planning to follow him to Europe not to do so.  Seems one of his acolytes even plans to travel to Israel.  Why bother to do that, when you will be able to view Ron and Laura’s bodies lying in the streets of Jerusalem on TV?  Have some faith, after all Ron says in his book that it will be on TV, and everything is coming to pass exactly as written in his books.

While Satan put thoughts in Ron’s head back on the day of Atonement that Christ would not return on Pentecost, it was Jesus who gave Ron the Last Great Day sermon during which he messed with his followers’ heads, resulting in at least one who required professional help to recover.  Ron’s sermon was all about faith, starting out in Hebrews 11.  He again compared himself to Noah, who was mocked (even though the Internet didn’t exist) for building an ark.  How could someone not ignore the abject failures of all of Ron’s prophecies and give up so close to the end?

Ron also read in 1 Corinthians 10:23, with his point being that one should give a good example, refraining from certain acts which while lawful could be lead others astray.  Ron should have had that in mind before leading IRS Criminal Investigation to conduct a 3 1/2 year investigation leading to a criminal indictment.

Ron has thrown money yet again into Google advertising, claiming search results have increased 20-25% per week.  While traffic statistics from alexa.com indicate that Ron’s web traffic is increasing, he’ll have to increase it significantly above 0.002% of web users before he dies in 8 weeks if he wants people to celebrate his death by exchanging gifts and watching the live coverage of his bodies on TV.

Ron promises a unique sermon next weekend, which is to be a fast of Thanksgiving to God for delaying the Great Tribulation for so long.  There is to be a new focus.  Ron made no direct reference to Christ’s return in 9 weeks.  Could this be the beginning of the course correction needed to lead PKG around the shoals of the failure of his ultimate prophecy?

Faith in Man

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

I’ve been getting some search engine referrals recently for some looking for information on False Prophet Ronald Weinland’s criminal trial.  Which at one time was scheduled to begin two days ago (on Tuesday the 20th) but has now been delayed until June 4.   I wonder if Ron has cut off funding for his legal defense team since he thinks he will be a member of the Elohim God-family on that date.  Ron has changed his travel itinerary for May 12 and May 19.  He was scheduled to be in London on the 12th and the Netherlands on the 19th, but he has swapped those dates.  Perhaps he doesn’t want to make it too easy for the Beast Power to snatch him up from nearby Netherlands on the 19th, so as to be at the pre-trial conference on May 21.

A new commenter on this blog left the following yesterday:

My wife and I know a couple who have been following Ronnie since 2008 and are now in the process of “selling all of [their] belongings”. They haven’t explicitly stated that it’s due to 5/27, but we have our obvious suspicions. It’s painful to watch.

So they are doing this based on the word of a man with a dismal track record and a history of lies and broken promises.  A man who:

  • In 2006, offered the early-on deaths of 5 specific elderly men as proof of his validity as a prophet of God, none of whom have died
  • In March of 2008, promised to stop preaching by Pentecost if evidence of the First Trumpet were not readily apparent by then, and to admit being a false prophet if the Second Trumpet had not blown by then.
  • But instead switched to a new timeline in June of 2008, despite having ridiculed someone who would do that during a sermon the prior December and in an interview the prior November.
  • Who called a 2-day fast in January, asking members to pray for the deaths of others to bring them to repentance.  Then later credited their prayers for delaying the Great Tribulation.
  • Who during the 2009 Feast of Tabernacles said that the European Beast Power would arise by August of 2011.
  • Who in March of last year said that he would be a false prophet if China did not begin destroying the earth last year.
  • Who in April of last year stated a 40 week period of judgment and destruction on the United States and other Israelite was beginning
  • Who says that the 5 months of torment began on January 7.
  • And who now says this could happen after his death on May 23, in the 3 1/2 days before Christ’s supposed return

Let’s look at the claims of this man that he and his wife are the Two Witnesses.  Have they:

  • turned any water into blood?
  • stopped up any heavens to keep it from raining?
  • had any attempt to harm them “boomerang” on the offender?  As in the IRS Special Agent, the Prosecutor, and Grand Jury Members being indicted for tax fraud?
  • had any pronouncement of deaths come true?  (Specifically yours truly?) (Ron’s equivalent to “breathing fire”)

And let’s look at what else has to happen in the nine weeks remaining before Pentecost:

  • All the thunders that haven’t pealed, including the deaths of numerous CoG ministers, celebrities, and common people from epidemics
  • TV interviews of Ron, when the only interview he got even after advertizing his availability was on a second-rate radio station.
  • The 2700 or so ex-WCG members who are to join PKG
  • The millions of other people who are to be baptized into PKG
  • The blowing of the First Trumpet and all the rest

And you believe this man ……. because??????  You’re going to make irrevocable decisions because of what he says????  A promise breaker who has defined himself as insane liar???? Consider your personal apocalypse on Memorial Day (May 28) when the seven vials were not poured out on the rest of the world on May 27.

Ronald Weinland says that whether you believe him and act on what he says is between you and God.  A God who says “Deut 18:22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”

What It’s All About

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

False Prophet Ronald Weinland remained in Cincinnati this weekend before an overflow crowd that required one more section of the hotel ballroom to accommodate. None of the local elders got mic time, as Ron gave his own opening prayer and Johnny gave the closing.  Ron has made adjustments to his elders list, promoting Lynette to senior elder despite his promise back in 2010 that there would be no more senior elders after Mitch Williams (I think Lynnette is the fourth one since).  April Combs has been promoted to elder along with Alan Giles.  Early in 2008, Ron passed out business cards to his acolytes with information to obtain copies of his books.  Last week he stated that over 700,000 copies had been printed up with 150,000 on hand to send out to those who get one of the cards handed to them by a PKG member or follow a sponsored link from a Google search.

This weekend is the half-way point in the latest restart of PKG’s march around Jericho.  Ten weeks down in his last 20-week half-a-time, ten to go.  Three and one-half days in Ronnie’s latest Bible misreading.  Ron spent most of the sermon recycling his sermons from the last feast, which he said that Christ gave to him.  I suppose the Christ also gave his Last Great Day sermon which caused so much consternation among his followers.  He also let out a few more gems in this sermon, such as:

  • Unlike WCG ministers who would run out of material after about 7 years and have to be relocated so they could recycle their material before a new set of victims, Ron is blessed by being able to add more and more to the Bible.
  • Some ministers got their own ideas and went off on tangents.
  • God provided technology so that China, Russian, and Europe could destroy the earth and pave the way for Christ’s return.
  • This upcoming Passover will be in the top 3 of all Passover’s in significance, along with the first Passover as the Israelites were getting out of Egypt and also with the Passover for Christ’s Last Supper.

Ron says that he now expects the vast majority of the destruction to happen after his death.  That would be his death in the streets of Jerusalem at the hands of the Beast Power just over 9 weeks from now, sometime around midnight Tuesday evening May 22 Cincinnati time.  The last week before Christ’s return will be a busy week for him: starting with his return from the Netherlands on Sunday for his Monday morning pre-trial conference in federal court.  Will the Beast Power snatch him and the Mrs.  beforehand to spare him all that court stuff? Ron warned that his members would be tried by the delay of the second trumpet, not everyone would make it and someone would leave even at the very end.

Still trying to figure out Ronnie’s end game.  With Ronnie everything’s eventually spiritual, just as was my speedy death from the inside resulting from my mocking him after his reiterated death curse in December of 2008.  Will Ron die spiritually too?  How will Ron spiritualize the rest of it?  We’ll just have to stay tuned to see how it all plays out.

I’ll leave you with the epitome of irony from yesterday’s sermon, when Ron said:

It’s about not stealing and taking advantage of other people.  It’s about not lying to people.  That’s why God talks about hating a lie.  And people lie.  And then, you know, you tell one lie — you know what happens?  You gotta tell another one to keep backing it up.  And you can’t keep track of all the lies.

Four Hours and Forty-Four Minutes

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

False Prophet Ronald Weinland put up some new timeline charts on his website.  Here is a picture of one of them.

Looking them over, I was reminded of the chart he put up after the 2009 feast.  So I took another look at the older chart.  Of particular interest was the phrase on that chart”(toward the end of this Sabbath day” in reference to Joe Senior’s December 17, 1994 sermon which I must have had in mind in my January 15 posting where I pointed out that the sun had set in Jerusalem by 9:38 AM Eastern Time on that day.  In other statements, such as his latest chart he has used the phrase “to the hour” or “to the very hour” in comparing the time-of-day of Joe’s apostasy to the time-of-day of his death.  Weinland criticized my  9:38 AM sunset time in his February 18 sermon:

I was told of one thing that somebody had written at one point out there.  Totally foolish, backward, ignorant.  They tried to go back and … someone that not of the church <snorts derisively> .. but trying to go back and say “Well it’s like he can’t tell time because sundown on that year that .. he did this apostasy at sundown at a certain time in Jerusalem, and huh huh huh.  They’re way off because it was a certain time of day, and that couldn’t at be at the same hour.”

Totally missed the mark.  How could you be so backward?  How could you not hear?  Anyway, it’s about when he returns.  Do you understand what I’m saying?  It’s not about the day that that happened.  Being the same time in Jerusalem.  That it’s we’re talking about to the hour. ….  When somethings so messed up like that, why even try to explain it.  It’s better just to tell the truth.

Totally messed up, huh?  Ron, what does toward the end of “this Sabbath day”(December 17, 1994) mean?  If you’re going to criticize what I say, at least quote me accurately.  Here is what I posted:

Ron stated that Joe Tkach’s apostasy took place to the hour 13 time 70 weeks before Christ returns.  Ron has scheduled Christ to return at sundown in Jerusalem, which is when God’s day begins.  The time for sunset in Jerusalem on December 17, 1994 was 4:38 PM Israel Standard Time (IST).  IST is UTC +2 hours, while Eastern Standard Time is UTC -5 hours for a 7-hour difference.  So sunset in Jerusalem on 12/17/94 occurred at 9:38 AM Atlanta time.  Was Joseph Tkach speaking at 9:38 AM?

So now who’s the one who’s all messed up?  Back to more of Ronnie’s February 18 statement:

What I like pointing out here is: before the sermon was over that he was giving, and still close to the very midst of it, a little bit farther into it, by the time he’d gone through it,  in the midst of that apostasy sermon the timing of Christ’s return and appearance,  will follow 6370 days later, Jerusalem time, which is near 7:36 PM Jerusalem time.  Sundown on the Sabbath in Jerusalem, when Jesus Christ returns right at that moment when Pentecost begins.

So the point of interest is 7:36 PM Jerusalem time.  Which is 12:36 PM Eastern time (Atlanta time as well).  According to Ronnie’s latest chart, Joe’s sermon was “10 am to 1:30 pm EST” which includes 12:36 PM.  While that’s consistent with the photo of the church bulletin I posted, he has offered no proof of the timing within the sermon when Joe Sr made the defining statement that keeping the sabbath was unnecessary.

In Ronnie’s February 18 sermon, he stated “It’s better just to tell the truth.”  So why don’t you just tell the truth, Ronnie?  Instead, in your latest chart, you repeat the lie “Joe Tkach, Sr.’s death (to the hour)” even after I offered proof that his death was at 2:20 PM Pacific time which is 5:20 PM Eastern/Atlanta time, a full 4 hours and 44 minutes after the time-of-day of the time you scheduled Christ to return.  “To the hour” for Joseph Tkach’s apostasy could match one of these other events but not both of them.  Even if they were to some how match, how would that be significant?  Where does it say that in the Bible?  Except in 1 Ronald Chapter 2 Verse 1260: “It’s significant because I have no prophecy that’s come true so I’m grasping for straws.”

Weinland’s “to the hour” lie is itself relatively unimportant relative to the lie that God reveals truth to him.  And the lie that Christ will return this coming Memorial Day weekend and resurrect the faithful to become members of Elohim.

Other little gems in Ronnie’s latest chart which are inherited from his previous chart.  Such as: “May 30, 1998 After 980 days (“time, times, & 1/2 time”), the Church was reestablished on Pentecost”.  Wrong.  Pentecost that year was on May 31.  And what was the significant event that day that defined the reestablishment of the Church?  Maybe it was Mary Dowd playing the piano as the special “offering” was collected.  Listen to Ron’s sermon (20 MB MP3) on that day and fill me in if he said anything amongst all the blather about reestablishing the church.  BTW, at 34 minutes into the sermon audio he states that the previous day was 3 1/2 years, not that day (Pentecost of ’98).  Just to refresh your memory, Pentecost of ’98 was about a year after Weinland took leave of the United Church of God.  And about a year and a half prior to his booting out the lay church board of his corporation by the simple tactic of disfellowhipping them for not toeing his line.

And this one: “Dec. 14, 2008 – God reveals definition of a “time” being 280 days.”  Wrong, wrong wRonG.  It wasn’t until October 10 of the following year that you pulled out that little gem as an interim explanation as to why the Great Tribulation has not happened.

Things Moving Rapidly Forward

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

False Prophet Ronald Weinland was in the Spokane area speaking in his small rented conference room before the faithful gathered from as far away as Hawaii and Florida.  Seems Johnny wasn’t in attendance this time, and he gave his “local” elders Chris Czech and Jim Jamieson some mike time for the prayers.

Back in 2008, Ron spent a bunch of money on Google keyword advertising and sending out copies of his books.  According to court filings, the IRS criminal investigation of Ronald Weinland determined $1.8 million spent on church expenses that year, and whatever wasn’t spent on Ronnie and Laura’s globetrotting with their entourage was spent on that.  A Google search 4 years ago for certain keywords would result in a sponsored link to Ronnie’s the-end.com website promoting his books.  Spending tapered off in 2009 with only a few pushes, such as when the movie “2012” came out.  Ron says that he is restarting the Google ad campaign in a final push to drain the funds.  And indeed a search for “herbert armstrong” will return a sponsored link.  The cynic in me wonders if this isn’t part of his legal defense, that those funds weren’t really his but were the church’s, don’t you see?

Ron repeated his claim that the great tribulation could happen all on the last day. He wonders why some people are leaving his church with time so short, and predicts that people will leave even on the last day.  I wonder if PKG members will give it up when they don’t see his body lying next to that of the Silent Witness on the streets of Jerusalem live and on television.  But I expect that Ron will prepare them for that by spiritualizing it in advance.  I wonder how all the 3000 ex-WCG members are going to be driven to join Ron’s church if the Great Tribulation is delayed until May 26.  Oh yeah.  That’s what the Google advertising for the keyword “herbert armstrong” is for.

Ron went back to his April 16 sermon of last year, in which he prophesied that last year’s Passover would be the last great one before Christ’s return as it would be the last one for which people could assemble, since obviously the 5th trumpet would have blown by now and we’d be in the 5 months of torment.  Seems that not everything he says came from God.  Ya think???!!!  Fortunately God reveals to Ron a new way to twist the Bible to explain the 5-month thing, but hasn’t yet revealed an explanation for the year, month, day, and hour thing.  Somewhere the 200-million-strong Asiatic hordes are gathering to rampage.

Ron’s upcoming church-wide fast at the end of the month is to be about thanks giving.  I’m thinking that would be giving thanks for delaying the Great Tribulation for so long.  Of course were a significant disaster to happen soon after, the fast would turn out to have been about that.  Ron warned against being distracted by non events.  He went on to state that if it doesn’t happen on May 27, that whatever they do to recover after that is between them and God and immediately transitioned to an implication that currency will be worthless.

Now less than 11 weeks to go.  And just over 12 weeks before the start of the criminal trial of Ronald Weinland.  Which I doubt he will be able to delay a third time, unless he decides to accept judgment and takes a plea.  Will be interested to see how Ron plays out this end game.
