Technical Problems

I’ve managed to recover the database but not including the latest posts. So Ronnie’s death curse has yet to take effect :-D I’ll re-entered manually the missing post including the comments. My hosting company has made some changes which hopefully will end the intermittent slow downs — seems to be working well so far.

Here is a copy of the interim post from earlier today and the comments on it.

Due to massive technical problems with the database, I’m doing a bit of a reset.  The Spokesman Witness gets a break while I recover, no doubt he will attribute this to his death curse :-D

See, this is where MySQL really, really, drops the ball. You don’t see this behavior with the commercial databases.

Doesn’t matter what he says. You’re still alive and he’s an impotent curser.

Ha! Ron couldn’t curse his way out of a wet paper bag.

Is is my mySQL or is it my hosting company? I complain to godaddy, and they just point fingers. Their last claim was that I had database problems. Well, this is a fresh database and it’s not working very well.

What’s a better alternative?

Your dedication is a thing to fear and behold, Mike. ;-)

The WW blog stayed pretty well intact, except for the audio files, and when Hotlinkfiles went down (and took all the audio clips with it), I just couldn’t have been bothered to find another source to upload them to, that would have been compatible with the free WordPress, and then go through and manually fix all the links (because, again, free WordPress).

Which is my long and rambling way of saying, I wish I had your kind of motivation to stick with it, even after the first timeline failed. I think you’re pretty much the only one left seriously debunking the Two Witlesses, because Jack is the much-needed and well-appreciated comic relief. :-)

Don’t forget about Dill Weed.

But even though Rotten Ronnie has failed, and refailed, and had actually proven himself a false prophet before the first timeline even started, people continue to follow him. And even more start following him. Hard to believe, I know. But that’s why I continue.

Mike, I don’t really have any room to talk because I’ve sold my soul to blogspot.com, and YHVH only knows what they use for a database but, when I had my own website, I always used Microsoft SQL Server.

If technical problems were prophetic then Weinland would be cursed many times over. Glad you got this site restored. I’ve been a faithful follower here for over two years and certainly appreciate the commentary.

  • Mike (DDTFA) says:

Mark, thanks for the good word. Hoping Weinland gets shut down before another two years elapse.

Baywolfe: Godaddy offers both Microsoft and Linux hosting plans and I chose the Linux plan, figuring it would be OK. My problems were partly self-induced but also a result of Godaddy’s clunky user interface. Also, the site slowdowns were a result of how they had the servers set up, but my complaints about it were met with finger pointing, either it was a script or plugin or my database wasn’t optimized.

  • J says:

Phew, good to have it back. The default layout on that fresh one was an eyesore.

  • Mike (DDTFA) says:

The layout is a template that can be changed anytime. The real value of the original database is all the content, which is indexed by Google for those searching about Weinland.

  • J says:

Well, it’s a good thing you recovered anything. Weinland WOULD have claimed to have used his power to remove your “lies”, I have no doubt.
