I guess I was lucky that Y.O.U. hadn’t really started up in earnest when I was a teen forced to warm the hard metal folding chairs of a WCG congregation. There were a few false YOU starts, with an adult making a lame attempt in the local congregation at it. I had contact with the same person 20 years later in another context, and amazingly we never discussed our WCG association, pretending it had never happened. He was even living in the same house in which he hosted youth meetings.

Hmmm, but doesn’t Weinland use the weasel words, “god just places it in my mind”? That was always the approach the church took before, and was why we were encouraged NOT to evangelize. (The real reason was so people wouldn’t try and talk us out of the cult, though.) The Holy Spirit (force/breath/wind/soul of “god”) was what opened our minds, or so we were told. Baptized members had this elemental spirit in them, unbaptized members and “the worldly” did not. Children of baptized members, we were told in the Y.E.S. Youth Bible Lessons, “have the Holy Spirit working with [them], not in [them], because [their] parents are baptized”.

Those of us with one parent in, and one parent out, of course, only got the Holy Spirit “working with us” in half-measures, since one parent was considered “spiritually dead”. As it was a first marriage for both, though, D&R still had precedence at the time, and they never split up when they should have.

Damn. I don’t really know why all that just rambled out of me…..I miss AW.

Ron has been fickle in some areas, not in others. He certainly has been fickle about which titles he’s willing to claim and to assign to others such as his spiritual idol Herbert Armstrong.

OTOH, I don’t think he’s fickle toward his family, as he’s increasingly engaging them in his family business. And not fickle about a general doctrine that he speaks for God.

Oh my, but wouldn’t that be giving power tools into the hands of babes.
He would more than likely blow his own leg off firing off the “power” before he ever got a “mocker” into his sights…

But of course we who believe would never imagine God giving likes of wicked-weinland a “power”.
That would be like nuns handing out handguns to the 1st graders. The results would be obvious…

You know, reading back through the comments, I've got to say Weinland really did lay the "crazy old f" bs on really thick, during Timeline One. Hell, even I bought it. "If by Pentecost" pretty much put paid to that (Literally!), however.
