Electrical engineers would be very interested in electrical conductive, semiconductive, and insulative properties of all classes of materials. In addition to electrical properties, structural and thermodynamic issues are also of importance to electrical engineers. The screw thread contact is aluminum alloy.

The filament is made of tungsten a metal. The structure that holds the wire is also ceramic glass. Stiff metallic wires nickel-iron alloy connect the filament to the electrical contact at the bottom of the screw. The filament base stem assembly to hold wires is also made using molds. The filament is manufactures using a process called wire-drawing. The filament is placed on the stem.

The glass bulb is placed on the stem and the filament. Air is extracted. The base is sealed. The selected materials must be strong enough to support the load with yielding or fracture. The weight of the fishing rod is also an important factor. The corrosion resistance of the materials may be a consideration over the life of the fishing rod.

Aluminum alloy is lighter but not as strong or stiff. Wood is also lighter and cheaper but not as strong or stiff.

For example, if a major war broke out in the Middle East, the price of oil would increase, and hence the price of plastic materials would also increase. For example, a high strength composite material used for aircraft may start showing some delamination defects.

There is also a polymer foam vinyl placed inside the helmet. The helmet and the foam absorb a great deal of impact energy by deforming. There are many opportunities for industrial internships and placements within the School during the summer, giving you the chance to put your skills into practice. The third and fourth years will allow you to gain specialist knowledge in areas that most interest you, such as aerospace, biomaterials and computer simulations.

You will also take part in a group research project during your third year. MEng students will undertake an individual project in their final year.

How you will be assessed Assessment is through a mixture of written exams and continually assessed coursework. As well as end-of-year exams and written assignments, assessment methods include oral presentations, computer-based tests, laboratory and project reports. Each module is assessed independently and most contain some components of continuous assessment. Some modules are completely assessed by either examination or coursework. Seminars and tutorials Small-group tutorials and personal tutorials run alongside the lecture course and are aimed at addressing any individual problems you may have and allowing you to consolidate the lecture material, as well as testing your understanding through problem-solving exercises.

Our lecturers are not only experts in their field; they are passionate about passing on their expertise. It splits the mechanical properties chapter into two separate chapters in order to provide additional and expanded coverage of such topics as fatigue, crack propagation and stress, rupture time, and temperature relationships in creep, to name just a few. In addition, all new topics are accompanied by new problems for a stronger understanding of recent developments in the field.
